LIVE WHERE HISTORY SHINES

About the Washington Irving Building

The Washington Irving is a historic 7‑story high‑rise apartment located in Poet’s Corner on Kansas City’s iconic Country Club Plaza. Designed in 1928 by renowned Kansas City architect Nelle E. Peters — one of the city’s most prolific architects of the early 20th century — the building is part of a cluster of Peters‑designed residences named after famous literary figures.

Peters was a pioneering woman in her field, credited with designing nearly 1,000 buildings — particularly apartments and hotels — throughout the Midwest during the 1920s and beyond.

Inside the Washington Irving, residents enjoy bright sunrooms and beautiful historic details such as arched doorways, intricate crown moldings, and hardwood floors. Offering thoughtfully designed studios and one bedrooms, you will fall in love with the variety. All top‑floor apartments feature private balconies, offering great views and outdoor space. Each floor contains five unique units with character that reflects both original craftsmanship and thoughtful preservation.

Situated steps from Plaza shopping, dining, and fountains, the Washington Irving blends timeless architectural charm with modern urban living in one of Kansas City’s most beloved neighborhoods.
